Key Lab of Preclinical Study for New Drugs of Gansu Province

The Key Lab of Preclinical Study for New Drugs of Gansu province, which is under the leadership of Lanzhou University, is one of the first batch provincial-level key laboratories of Gansu province. The laboratory was prepared to establish in 1999 and authorized by Gansu Province Sci.©}Tech. Department in 2002. The Scholar of the Cheung Kong, professorAcademician Rui Wang serves as the director and Chair professor. Academician Bao-feng Yang is the Chairman of Academic Committee. In recent years, great efforts have been made to recruit and foster qualified researchers, and the scientific research team has been optimized continuously. Now, there are 39 scientific researchers in this key lab, among whom 19 researchers have senior title, and 34 researchers have doctoral degree. Notably, the researchers have gotten a lot of honors. There are one Academician, one Cheung Kong Scholar of the Ministry of Education of China, one winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, one Leading Talent of the National 'Ten Thousand Plan', two Education Programs for New Century Excellent Talents, two young talents of the 'Thousand Talents Program' of organization department, four Leading Talents of Gansu Province, five persons of Science and Technology '333' Talent Project and '555' Project of Talent of Innovation of Gansu Province.
The construction area of this key lab is 3500m2. The total value of the instruments and equipment in this lab is over 50 million yuan (RMB). During the process of development, four research directions were formed: (1) peptide drugs and pharmaceutical chemistry; (2) the activity screening, toxicological and new dosage study of new drugs; (3) the study of innovative drugs based on molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease.
The researchers of the laboratory undertake a lot of state level, the provincial and ministerial level projects, including the Key National S&T Program ¡°Major New Drug Development¡± of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, 863 Project, the National Natural Science Foundation. In addition, numbers of new drug research projects commissioned by enterprises are undertaken by the researchers of the laboratory. Each year, more than 60 SCI research papers are published, over 5 national invention patent items are authorized in average. In the past few years, the laboratory has been awarded by a second class State Technology Invention Award, a second class State Natural Science Award, 3 international academic awards, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation and a number of Provincial Natural Science Awards.
According to the principle of ' Open, Flow, Associated, Competitive', the laboratory carries out a wide range of academic exchanges and cooperation in scientific research with the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and many domestic universities, research institutions and enterprises. The Key Lab of Preclinical Study for New Drugs of Gansu Province has become an important base for pharmaceutical research in western China.
