The Institute of Pathophysiology was formerly the Department of Pathophysiology of Lanzhou Medical College. It was founded in 1954. In 2004, Lanzhou Medical College was merged with Lanzhou University.
The research direction of the institute is focused on tumorigenesis and prevention, anti-infective immunity and genetic engineering, and clinical pathophysiology. The institute has participated in National 863 Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Education, Key Research and Development of Gansu Province, International Cooperation, Natural Science Fund, Scientific and Technological Research, Science and Technology Support, Young and Middle-aged Science Fund, Key Education of Education Department, Health Department Science and Technology, Chinese Medicine Administration , Lanzhou City, social development and other scientific research projects. The institute has won the second prize of Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress of the Provincial Medical Association, the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Provincial Universities, etc. The institute has published more than 60 research papers in domestic and foreign magazines in recent years, including more than ten articles of SCI. The graduated  students of  the institute are working in universities, hospitals, medical and health government agencies, or continuing their education in universities at home and abroad.
The Institute undertakes the teaching tasks of ”°pathophysiology”±, ”°pathophysiology experiment”± and ”°medical functional science experiment”± for medical students, and provides ”°pathophysiology progress”± for graduate students, and provides clinical pathophysiology lectures for medical staffs in clinical work. The Institute has consistently followed the theory of translational medicine to link with practical teaching ideas, constantly updates the teaching model, focuses on the cultivation of students' independent learning ability, innovative ability and critical thinking. The members of the institute have been Editor-in-Chief of Tsinghua University Press, deputy editor of Science Press, and participated in the 'Pathophysiology' of Peking University Medical Press, deputy editor of Lanzhou University Press 'Medical Function - Bilingual Edition', the 'Medicine Function' of Lanzhou University Press 'Welcome medical textbooks, self-edited 'pathological physiology experimental guidance', 'pathophysiology study book'. The institute has undertaked the Gansu Provincial Department of Education, Lanzhou University Teaching Reform, Mutu Construction Project, and participated in the construction of the micro-curricular curriculum of Peking University. Pathophysiology was awarded the Excellent Course of Gansu Province, the Teaching Achievement Award of Gansu Provincial Department of Education, 'Three Education People' of Lanzhou University, the first prize of outstanding medical teaching achievement of medical school, the excellent teaching and research section of undergraduate teaching of medical school and the National Functional Skills Competition Grand Prize.
More than 30 teachers have worked in the institute, and their unremitting efforts have contributed to the development of the Institute. There are currently 7 teachers, including 3 associate professors, 4 lecturers(6 doctors and 1 master).
